Why Do I Need A Hushkit?
A hushkit allows unrestricted operations throughout the world. With a Stage III Technologies hushkit, you can travel the globe just like a G-IV. In addition, local airports and national lobbying groups are
fighting to ban all stage 2 operations in the United States. You may review the latest news on our Noise News page.
Operational Questions
Will stage 4 / chapter 4 affect Hushkitted aircraft?
No. Stage 4 / chapter 4 applies only to aircraft receiving new type certification after 1 January 2006.
Are there any cockpit operational changes
No.
Does the hushkit affect aircraft handling?
Pilots report increased stability that we attribute to the extended pylon area. (see here)
Does the hushkit affect engine performance?
No. Extensive testing in a calibrated test cell confirmed that the engine performs exactly the same at all settings with our
hushkit installed.
Do I have to remove the hushkit to remove the engine?
No.
Will the hushkit affect my engine warranty repair?
No. (see here)
Maintenance Questions
What maintenance is required?
None. The hushkit only requires periodic visual inspections that are
easily completed in house or by any reputable maintenance facility. We designed these inspections to correspond with other routine engine work.
What is the life cycle of the hushkit?
The thrust reverser currently has a 10,000 cycle life limit based on our submitted 70,000 cycle test plan
How often do I lubricate the thrust reversers?
Never. Other than periodic visual inspection, the thrust reversers are maintenance free. Advances in material design since the 1960's now allow us to use long life, self-lubricating bushings.
Who do I contact with maintenance questions?
The same engineers that designed our hushkit are available for product support. Just call 858.964.5816 for assistance.
How Does Your Hushkit Compare To Others?
How quiet is your hushkit?
Our hushkit has publicly demonstrated a 50% noise reduction. No other hushkit has done this.
Does your hushkit reduce cabin noise?
Yes. Any reduction in overall engine noise is noticeable inside as well as outside of the aircraft.
What makes your hushkit reliable?
Our hushkit contains no moving parts. The ejector is affixed to the fuselage in a similar manner as the engine.
Due to the harsh conditions in which it operates, we construct our ejector with a welded, aluminum honeycomb core. In fact the same technology is used on
missile blast doors of naval warships.
We carefully designed our hushkit to maintain the exact engine air inflow and outflow volumes and locations as the existing stage 2 configuration. We then confirmed these design elements in a calibrated test cell. This precludes the possibility that our hushkit creates any unexpected backflow pressures that can lead to engine damage.
Do you reuse my existing thrust reverser?
No. Our hushkit provides two newly designed and manufactured cascade style, thrust reversers that are more efficient than the existing 30 year old parts. You
achieve the same stopping power at only 80% of N2 RPM. In addition to being more quiet on rollout, this reduction in power reduces wear and tear on the aircraft and engines.
